A Beat Goes On Exclusive Feature!
The longest-charting album in Billboard history is Dark Side of the Moon from Pink Floyd. It first appeared in the Top 200 on March 17, 1973 and stayed there for 736 weeks (14 years)! It dropped off the chart in august 1988 before re-emerging on the Catalogue Albums chart (the list that tracks the sales of non-current albums) and ran for another 759 weeks (15 years!). This is at least twice as long as the next closest album, which is Legend by Bob Marley.
By the way, Dark Side still sells anywhere from 8,000 to 9,000
copies a week. Best estimates put total worldwide sales
somewhere north of 40 million.
