MARCH 2007

Brett from Hamilton Asks:
I have a copy of the promo for Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory? that contains the song "Step Out" before it was removed from the track listing due to possible legal concerns. I know pricing such things is a guessing game, but what is your guess at the value of the CD?”

Alan Answers: The problem with “Step Out” was that it was sounding a little too similar to “Uptight,” the big Stevie Wonder hit from 1966. Rather than give the lawyers something to do (Oasis had recently been sued by Coca - Cola over “Shakermaker” over melodic similarities to their “I Like to Buy the World a Coke” commercial back in the 70s), Read More...

Morgana Asks: I'd love to get hold of Syrinx's "December Angel,” preferably as an MP3 file. Are you aware of anyone/place that might have it available?”

Alan Answers: Like most people of a certain age, I discovered Syrinx through a futuristic all - synth track called “Tillicum,” which was the opening and closing theme of an old CTV program called Here Comes the 70’s, which also became something of a hit single at the time. Read More...

Charles Asks: The late Michael Hutchence of INXS was in a movie called Dogs in Space in 1986 or 1987, I believe. He also performed a few songs for the soundtrack. I had the soundtrack on tape and loved a few of the songs. I'd swear that I saw the soundtrack on CD in a Strawberries store in the late eighties and held it in my hands but foolishly didn't buy it. Now I can't find any evidence that this soundtrack was ever released on CD, only tape and vinyl. Am I crazy or was this ever released on some ultra rare CD? Any idea if this would ever be released on CD in the future?

Alan Answers: Dogs in Space, an Australian film, had its premiere in early January 1987. Hutchence starred as Sam, who finds himself involved in a sex’n’drugs thing. Read More...
